Survivors of Suicide

St. Peter the Fisherman, in Two Rivers, organized an interfaith ‘Survivors of Suicide’ grief support group beginning November, 2007. Survivors of Suicide refers to individuals/families that had lost someone to death by suicide. This became a large and active group with the reoccurring question being, “Can’t something be done to prevent suicide from occurring?" A task force was formed to study what was happening out in the state and in the country. The task force found suicide to be a widespread problem and considered by the State of Wisconsin to be in an endemic. This led the task force to formally organize, using the format, set forth by the newly organized Prevent Suicide Wisconsin, and became Prevent Suicide Wisconsin - Manitowoc County, Inc. (AKA Prevent Suicide Manitowoc)

Prevent Suicide WI – Manitowoc Co., Inc. was organized as a 501c3 charitable organization in 2011. It was recognized by the IRS as such on November 15th, 2012, receiving tax exempt status.
